Enclosed Porch

August 11, 2016

They started with a covered deck. It was not as enjoyable with bugs and wind. With fewer days to fully enjoy the space due to not being able to control the conditions, they asked about solutions. Their main goals were to enclose with the least amount of obstructed view, block the breeze, open completely when desired, use space in cooler times of the year.

We suggested Eze-Breeze Enclosures (www.PGTEzeBreeze.com). They are a non-glass product that provides more versatility in many ways than a traditional window. They provide more options of letting the breeze in – they open from the top or the bottom – 1/4, ½, ¾ or completely remove for full screen from floor to top of window opening.

Some minimal framing was required to divide the space equally for the enclosures to be attached. The size of the enclosures can be wider than using a traditional window and can go all the way to the floor.  This allows for maintaining the floor to ceiling view, which was a main goal of our client. We also installed a storm door for an exit to the back yard. The vertical handrail was replaced with horizontal cable railing to minimize view obstruction. The railing needs to be there if the porch is over 28” off the ground.

This space now provides a more comfortable place to enjoy many more days than before.
